This is the first prop for my feature narrative, Criquet. It is nearly finished. This device will be used by the main character throughout the film. It is a working prop. It is roughly 2 feet wide. More images to come.

I’m looking into the animation of photographic portraits using After Effects. This is a first attempt at using the puppet tool in AE. I am looking for a slow, nearly imperceptible change in expression. This is all still very early in the conceptual and technical stage. Basically a diversion from other projects.

The original (cropped) photograph of an unknown man on the left and the altered Photoshop image on the right.

Lately I’ve been negligent in my attempts to create situations that allow for orchestrated chance encounters to not only take place but flourish.

Last Thursday opportunity showed itself, even though it almost ruined my car, I took advantage of it. I think I’m on to something with this imagery. Simple tests that hopefully translate into a new project evolving from the Lake Series. These images are screen grabs from test videos. Scroll down to see all the images. Video coming soon?

I’m currently working with SUNY Fredonia biology professor Dr. Bill Brown on his behavioral studies of praying mantis. I am shooting video that will be used for analysis and documentation as well as broader impact and outreach. We are hoping to continue the video portion of the research through grants.

The first video is done and uploaded on YouTube. I recommend you view the video at full 1080p resolution in full screen mode if you connection and computer can handle it. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.

Once again Josh Gumiela has provided some nice audio. Checkout his website http://gumielectronic.net

Warning:
The video may be objectionable to anyone averse to highly detailed imagery of insects and insect cannibalism.
